What is a personalised children’s book?

In a personalised children’s book, your child is the main character. There are two kinds. In the first, only the name is dropped into a ready-made story and the pictures are the same for everyone. In the second, the illustrations start from a photo of your child: hair, face and glasses become a character that looks like them, and the story grows out of what you tell. Bildorai Kids is the second kind: every book is one of a kind, every picture is drawn anew for your child.

Why children love these books

Finding yourself in a story is a powerful experience, especially for pre-school children. Many parents tell us their child asks for the book again and again and loves pointing at the familiar faces: mum, dad, a sister, grandpa. Over time the book also becomes a family keepsake that is still on the shelf years later.

Which occasions does it suit?

What to look out for

1. Likeness. Does the character really look like your child? It matters that you see and approve it before the book is made.
2. Story. Is only the name swapped, or does what you tell go into it: the favourite animal, the best friend, a place you have been?
3. Editing. You should be able to change the text yourself and have a picture you do not like made again.
4. Family. Can siblings, parents or grandparents join the story?
5. Privacy. Where and for how long are the photos kept, and can you delete them?
6. Format. A PDF can be read on a tablet or printed wherever you like; for a printed book, check paper, binding and delivery.

How it works with Bildorai Kids

1. Upload photos. One clear photo from the front per person is enough; a few more from other angles improve the result.
2. Approve the character. Your child’s book character is made from the photo, and you check and approve it. Next to the main character you can add up to three more people.
3. Choose a theme and a style. Dinosaurs, space, under the sea, pirates, castles and knights, a winter tale … or your own idea. Drawn classic, in watercolour, in coloured pencil, as 3D animation or in a fairy-tale style.
4. Check the book. You can edit the text of all twelve illustrated pages and have single pictures made again.
5. PDF or print. The PDF costs €6.99. Printed books are made individually and currently ship within Germany; all prices are on the pricing page.

Are my photos safe?

Your photos are not stored publicly and are only used to create your characters and your book. For the illustrations they are sent to our AI provider, currently Google. You can delete your original photos at any time under My projects. More in our privacy policy.
